How can I boost my career by building my skills?

The employment market provides real opportunities to people who build their skills and knowledge. Even better, training that is directly relevant to the workplace provides an extra advantage. Most people are not aware of the enormous efforts made to improve the relevance and access to vocational training and education in Australia since the early 1990s. At that time the Commonwealth Government initiated the National Training Reform Agenda. Its key aims were to enhance the relevance of training to the workplace and to increase worker mobility in the job market. These changes provide great opportunities to people to get the jobs they want and for employers to ensure the best fit between job and person. Let’s have a look at how this can work to your advantage. There are a lot of training providers out there and there are a lot of confusing terms. You should look for training that offers the features discussed below.

Recognition: A key benefit to people who have been in the workforce but lack formal qualifications is the process of Recognition. Typically, you assemble a portfolio of evidence that is assessed against a qualification or unit of competency. The evidence can include work and life experience. Recognition can be a powerful step towards gaining part, or all, of a nationally recognised qualification.

Flexible Delivery: Training can be conducted in a number of ways, including distance and digitally, as well as the traditional face to face method. Sometimes training programs offer ‘mixed-mode’ or blended learning which makes use of more than one delivery method. You can often choose a delivery method that best matches you and your team’s circumstances.

Accredited Training: This is training that provides skills and knowledge of direct relevance to potential employers because industries have contributed to the training packages. This training also leads to qualifications that are acknowledged across Australia, which is a great thing if you decide to move interstate. There is usually an opportunity to seek higher qualifications within an industry training package as you gain more experience, skill and knowledge. This can help your promotion prospects. Sometimes your training qualifications can be used to gain access to higher education courses delivered by universities, especially if your training provider has established good relations with one or more universities.

Registered Training Organisation: You should seek out a Registered Training Organisation to provide your training because this ensures that they have been tested by independant, government appointed auditors against a series of national standards. This ensures that their training is of the best quality in terms of content and support systems. Only Registered Training Organisations can issue Accredited Training qualifications.

How can MTS help my business identify and address its training needs?

MTS has an excellent track record in helping businesses and government agencies in identifying and meeting their training needs. MTS is able to draw upon comprehensive training systems and practices, experienced client managers and administrators, as well as a strong client focus in all of our operations. As the MTS Charter states, we measure success by ‘Delighting Our Clients’.

MTS does not do what many other providers do, forcing clients to use set training solutions, regardless of the client’s actual needs. Instead, MTS recognises that every client enquiry is unique and that, when it comes to training solutions, ’one size does not fit all’.

MTS will listen, help you to clarify your training needs, explore how best to meet them, and then tailor the right solution so that the next time you need training services, you come to us first!

Can I get my work and life experience recognised towards a qualification?

A key benefit to people who have been in the workforce but lack formal qualifications is the process of Recognition. Typically, you would assemble a portfolio of evidence that is assessed against a qualification or unit of competency. The evidence can include examples of your work, statements from supervisors or clients. Evidence from other areas of your life may also be relevant, such as voluntary work for sporting or community organisations.

Recognition can be a powerful step towards gaining part, or all, of a nationally recognised qualification. Major Training Services has developed Recognition forms that help you make claims and has assessors who can review your claims.

If you would like to discuss opportunities for Recognition of your claims, please contact us.

How much will attending an MTS training program cost?

The cost of attending a MTS training program or seeking Recognition against a Accredited Training Qualification varies according to a range of factors such as: whether you are attending a Public Program (offered only in Brisbane); the training mode or location and the level of qualification sought.  If the training is offered in-house through your employer, fees are negotiated and paid by them.
